Our story is one of perseverance, family, and a love for bringing people together through food and culture.
Founded by Mary Jane Samson Eligado, a proud Filipina, and her partner Gorka Alvarez Ampurua, a Basque local, MJ Txikimart was born from a dream: to make authentic Filipino and Asian products accessible to the community in Bizkaia — and now, across Spain through our online shop.
Before opening a physical store, Mary Jane ran a small business from her home in PHILIPPINES. While working as a household helper and raising her family, she sold everything from clothes, jewelry, bags, and accessories to home-made Filipino favorites like longanisa and other home-cooked meals.
It was her way of supporting her family and following her entrepreneurial spirit, all while sharing the flavors and culture of the Philippines with friends and the local community.
In 2024, with limited savings but a big dream — and the support of her partner Gorka and their family — they opened their first physical store in Getxo. Today, MJ Txikimart offers authentic Filipino and Asian groceries, carefully selected to bring a taste of home to every customer.
